For the Goldendoodle, adventure must be taken seriously. After all, there are lizards to catch, frogs to watch and flowers to smell. "The Goldendoodle's determination in just being a happy dog is awesome!", says Dee Gerrish of Goldendoodle World. "There's nothing these dogs can't do."
For centuries, the purebred Golden Retriever as well as the Standard Poodle, have been loved by many. Both breeds of dogs have been used as hunting dogs, master hunters, companion as well as show dogs. Both dogs are excellent swimmers. Some Goldens and Poodles have been known to be terrific divers.
Today, few are used for hunting but it doesn't mean their keen sense of smell is any less. The Goldendoodle dog picks up a very healthy, equal balance of both breeds when they are a shaggy coat. The curly coat Goldendoodle sways more toward their purebred Poodle heritage and the smooth coat Goldendoodle sways more toward their purebred Golden Retriever heritage.
The Goldendoodle, regardless of coat type, is a very smart and confident breed. But don't let that confidence fool you into believing they are an independent dog. The Goldendoodle loves companionship and they need their humans just as much, if not more, than their humans need them. Although this beautiful hybrid will seldom appear in anything more than fun dog shows, their playfulness and eagerness outdoors brings a bucket load of adventure!
Eager to please, the Goldendoodle is very receptive to most obedience training and they are very playful with children. Dee says, "The number one complaint among Goldendoodle owners is that this hybrid does require quite a bit of coat maintenence". Indeed, keep lots of towels around! "Goldendoodles love the water. If they see a puddle, for sure they are going to jump right in it and not go around it!", Dee warns. "They can be very messy".
Goldendoodle owners need to correct them immediately, otherwise inappropriate behaviour can quickly turn into a bad habit. Says Dee, "These dogs usually only need to be shown something a couple of times before they get it. Subsequently, they can learn bad habits just as quickly." Fortunately, the Goldendoodle dog can learn good habits very quickly, helping to ensure that this dog is an affable, lovable companion.

The Goldendoodle is a wonderful dog. They are beautiful, adventurous, friendly and highly intelligent. Dee Gerrish of Goldendoodle World says, "They really do have a disposition that makes them the ideal pet for families with children of all ages, no matter how old the doodle is when they are adopted".
